An NRI couple, Ranjan and Chandrika Tandon donated $100 million to the prestigious NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering in Brooklyn. In a return gesture, the university, established in 1854, has been named as NYU Tandon School of Engineering on Monday. The contribution will toward financial aid, faculty and new programming, said NYU President John Sexton.
Chandrika Tandon is a New York University trustee and studied business at a management school in India and became a partner with leading corporate consulting firm McKinsey & Co. and went on to organize an investment-advisory firm in 1992. “Engineering us not just making machines move. Technology permeates every discipline, and that’s the future of solving the world’s problems,” said Chandrika in an interview.
Chandrika, also a musician, produced a music album called “Soul Call”, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2011. Her husband, Ranjan Tandon is an engineer and founded a hedge fund in 1990. Chandrika joined NYU’s board in 2010 after functioning as an executive in residence.
