Akhil Movie Review
Story:
Akhil (Akhil Akkineni) a happy-go-lucky guy who falls in love in first sight with Medical Student Divya (Sayessha Saigal). To impress her, he joins hands with K V Rajendra Prasad (Rajendra Prasad). But things do not work as planned and Diwya ends up in Europe. A German Scientist Kathrochi is in search for Jua which stops Global Catastrophe from powerful UV rays.
He believes that it will bestow him with supernatural powers to rule the world. At this time, Divya gets kidnapped by Mambo (a African Goon) after she treats a wounded tribal lad who is aware of Jua. Rest of the story is all about how Akhil teams up with Johnson & Johnson (Brahmanandam) to save Divya and also save the earth from the impending catastrophe.
Performances:
Akhil makes a decent debut with Akhil. He fed fans with full meals with excellent dances and fights. However he had to work a lot on his histrionics and expressions. Sayesha Saigal came up with an impressive debut. She passed off without going much over the top but the director limited her character in the film. She is very impressive with her dance movements. Mahesh Manjrekar is not at all exciting while Brahmanandam as Johnson & Johnson, Sapthagiri as Pothe Babu Rao, Jayaprakash Reddy and Vennela Kishore could not muster any comedy.
Nagarjuna‘s cameo in Akkineni Akkineni song was a good addon for fans. Rajendra Prasad, Hema and African Actors have very little to do in the film. Veligonda Srinivas had come up with a very predictable story. He along with director Vinayak directed this socio-fantasy with shades of films like Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Ark, Lara Craft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, Lord of the Rings, Devi Putrudu, Anji etc. Its sad that Vinayak came up with such horrible script.
Kona Venkat’s dialogues are also not that great. Vinayak faltered in narration as the story goes on flat with out any excitement and the climax ends on a drab note. That too much editing in the last minute seem to have missed the continuity factor too. Vinayak films these days are good on comedy front, even that is disappointing in this film. Its high time Vinayak has to reinvent himself. Even films comedy doesn’t make any impact.
Technical Performances:
The movie like never before in recent times have two music directors – Thaman S and Anup Rubens. But still the music doesn’t live upto the expectation. BGM by Mani Sharma is very good. The VFX effects of the film were inspired from many Hollywood films and are again badly conceived. Camera work by Amol Rathod is noteworthy. Production Values of “Shresht Movies Banner” are grand.
Plus Points:
Nagarjuna cameo
Dances and fights
Cinematography
Grand production values
Minus Points:
Poor screenplay
Direction
VFX
Second half
Final Stay :
Akhil is a good example of an epic film which was foiled by uninteresting screenplay and dialogues. There are flat episodes all over the film till the interval sequence. And in the second half you realize that VinayaK is taking you a boring ride.
The poor quality VFX makes the film so unrealistic that there is no emotional connect. On the whole, Akhil – Power of Jua is a sheer waste of Akhil’s immense energy and hard work. Disappointing Stuff!!
