The petition for divorce between actress Karisma Kapoor and her husband Sunjay Kapur on grounds of mutual consent has been disposed of. The family court judge, I J Nanda, disposed of the petition on Friday, after the couple had filed applications to withdraw their consent to it. Asked if they will stay together henceforth, Sunjay’s lawyer Narayan Suvarna said, “That is up to my client, I have no idea about it.” Either party can now file a fresh divorce case on other grounds available with them. Karisma’s lawyer Kranti Sathe said, “The petition for divorce on the grounds of mutual consent stands disposed as it was withdrawn by both the parties. Now there is nothing in court. We had filed the application to withdraw her consent to the petition because there was absolutely no intention or desire to fulfill any of the financial obligations. They were only for the children and he chose not to do it.”
As per the court’s orders, Sunjay was supposed to meet certain financial commitments within a period of six months from the time of signing the consent papers. However, he allegedly took no initiative. Sunjay’s lawyer Suvarna added, “The court has accepted the applications to withdraw the consent and has disposed of the matter as there was no compliance from both the sides. The divorce has not been granted and so they will be husband and wife.” The couple got married in 2003 and have two children, daughter Samaira and son Kiaan Raj.
