Shankarabharanam Movie Review
Story:
Gautam (Nikhil) is happy-go-lucky NRI who loves to spend his father’s hard earned money. But catastrophe struck the family one day as his father go bankrupt all of sudden. The family have a only Palace named Shankarabharanam left with them in Bihar. To pursue the legal battles, Gautam comes down to India to sell it off. The rest of the story is all about the troubles has to face in Bihar.
Performances:
The role of Gautam is yet again tailor made role for Nikhil. He looked smart and suave in the role of an NRI and later part in the film which he comes down to Bihar. He pulled it off decently. On the flip-side, he should have not over done the fake NRI accent which is irritating.
Nanditha has got very little do in the movie. She is okay in whatever she got. Anjali appears in a short role as a notorious bandit queen Munni and she is good in that. There are several known faces in comedy department. Only Sapthagiri and Prudhvi got roles with substance.
Prudhvi is highlight particularly in the second half. Rest – Praveen, Satyam Rajesh, Krishna Bhagwan, Shakalaka Shankar, Sanjay Mishra etc are all wasted. Same is the case with character artists too. Except for Rao Ramesh and Sampath every one are wasted.
Technical Performances:
Debut director Uday Nandanavanam failed miserably in his first attempt. Crime Comedies usually require gripping narration to bind the audience. The sentiment track of going bankrupt and comedy track of kidnap in the first half do not gel well. There is no impact whatsoever. Second half starts with a promise but very soon takes a dip. There are some comedy sequences here and there which worked but the over all impact can be never created.
Praveen Lakkaraju came up with a passable music. The back ground score is again lack lustre. Cinematography is alright but the Editor should have shortened the film. Kona Venkat’s punch dialogues worked only in parts. Production Values are okay.
Plus Points:
- Prudhvi comedy.
- Interval.
- Parts of second half.
- Basic plot.
Minus Points:
- Lack of tension.
- Too lengthy.
- First half.
- Music.
Final Say:
Shankarabharanam is an easily avoidable film for Nikhil as well as the audience. Except some comedy by Prudhvi nothing about the film is special and effect. Try it only if you do not have anything to do this weekend.
