Sonia, Rahul out of luck now

In what can be seen as a major setback for the Congress party, the Delhi High Court on Monday rejected the pleas of the party’s President and Vice President Sonia and Rahul Gandhi for quashing the summons against them in the infamous National Herald case. This new order would mean that Rahul and Sonia Gandhi must appear before the trial court on Tuesday.

The Delhi High Court made severe observations on the “questionable conduct” regarding how Sonia, Rahul and five other accused took control of National Herald’s publication and also quashed the plea of Suman Dubey, Moti Lal Vohra, Oscar Fernandez, Sam Pitroda and Young India Ltd for exemption from personal appearance in the case in the trial court.

The issues were summoned to the Congress honchos and the five other accused following a petition filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy alleging misappropriation of funds and taking control of the publication of the now-defunct daily.

Reacting on the High Court’s order, the Congress party’s spokesperson said that the party would move the Supreme Court against the order.
