IT minister K T Rama Rao, who is spearheading TRS campaign for GHMC elections, is doing everything to attract ‘settlers’ in Hyderabad towards TRS. TRS leaders and KTR who abused Seemandhra people residing in Hyderabad as ‘settlers’ during Telangana statehood agitation days, though it’s unconstitutional to term any Indian living anywhere in the country as ‘settler’, now themselves started claming as ‘settlers’ in Hyderabad.
The idea is to strike a chord with Seemandhra settlers in Hyderabad, who constitute a significant chunk of voters in GHMC limits, who have the capacity to make or mar the prospects of any party in elections. During a meet-the-press organised by Telangana journalists union on Tuesday, when a reporter asked KTR why he and TRS leaders were showing so much affection towards settlers these days, KTR replied. “Who else in not a settler in Hyderabad. Even myself is also a settler. I was born in Medak. My parents reside there. My father later shifted to Hyderabad due to which I also moved to Hyderabad and studied here.”
KTR further added, “If we take nearly one crore population residing in GHMC limits, hardly 10 per cent people would be there who were born and brought up in Hyderabad. The rest all migrated here from other districts and states. Not only Seemandhra people, there are lakhs of people in Hyderabad who migrated from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and all other states. Hyderabad is a mini-India.” If TRS leaders really considered Hyderabad as a mini-India, why did they abuse Seemandhra people during Telangana agitation?
A reporter posed the same question to KTR to which he replied, “During those days we were forced to behave like that as some people had provoked us to obstruct Telangana State. That was done out of political compulsions and there is nothing personal against Seemandhra people.”
