The decision of the YSRCP to stay away from the GHMC polls has evoked mixed reactions from the common public. After a meeting at ‘Lotus Pond’, it was decided to stay away from the polls and the reason given was that the Party wanted to concentrate on strengthening itself from the grassroots level in Telangana and Hyderabad.
As of now, they have a very weak network in Hyderabad and contesting the polls would do the Party no good. Perhaps, the Warangal by-poll result also factored in the decision of the party. A lot of expenditure would be incurred by the YSRCP if they had decided to field candidates and it would have been in vain. Hence, on the face of it, some analysts feel that it is quite a wise decision by the Party.
They opine that there is no point in throwing good money after bad. However, die-hard fans of YSR feel that Jagan should contest at least in some constituencies where the party is capable of putting up a strong show. That way, the ideology of the YSRCP could be propagated to the public and having a token presence at least in the GHMC Council would not have been such a bad thing for the party after all.
