Gods are going thirsty in Bihar. No… Not because of drinking water scarcity. The newly imposed total prohibition is the villain. Yes. A lot of local deities in Bihar are offered liquor, toddy or even arrack.
Shrines of Dak Baba, Masan Baba, Goraiya Baba, Dihwal Baba, Naukha Baba, and Bhairav are usually offered liquor on a daily basis. With the prohibition in place in Nitish Kumar’s Bihar, these Gods are parched now. Due to liquor ban, the even the pilgrims are not visiting these temples.
The pilgrim visits have falled by 40 per cent. In many communities like Musahar, offering liquor to Masan Baba is a daily ritual.
Liquor is offered to the God in a Kalasam on births, deaths and even wedding anniversaries. Interestingly, former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi is from the Musahar community. Biharis want prohibition to be relaxed if not for men, at least for the Gods.
