The Supreme Court dismissal of UPA government affidavit to review its earlier judgement on disqualification of convicted member has poured water on the political future of YSRC president YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
The Law ministry had moved a review pettition agaisnt the apex courts July 10 judgment, holding that MPs and MLAs, convicted of criminal offences, will be immediately disqualified from membership of the House without three months for appeal to give relief to almost 35 percent of the current members of Parliament. Instead of giving relief the be of Justices A.K. Patnaik and S.J. Mukhopadhaya, said that the Parliament is free to amend the law if it does not agree with the SC .
Jagan is in jail since May last on allegedly trumped up charges of political corruption during his father YSR’s chief ministership and routed all bribe money as investments into his media house and other companies. Now with the courts action the hopes of the YSRC of making Jagan as next Chief Minister appears to be a mirage and even if the YSRC won land slide victory in Seemandhra ( which all surveys appear to be certain of it ) Jagan’s future is still clouded and hazy.
