Tollywood’s trade is facing a huge competition from its neighboring counterparts from the Tamil film industry. Since the last couple of decades, dubbed films like Chandramukhi, Aparichitudu, Ghajini and Robo gave jitters to Telugu films with their record collections. Most of these Tamil hits even gave a stiff competition to top Telugu stars in terms of box-office collections. However, Tollywood audiences seem to have reduced their fascination towards Tamil dubbed films over the past few years as many high profile star Tamil films bombed in Telugu.
This series of disasters led to the downpouring of dubbing films in Telugu and even the market strategies have been changed. Over the past 2, 3 years, hardly 1, 2 dubbed films managed to get decent collections at Telugu box-office.But looks like 2016 has once again changed gears for dubbed films. Star hero Suriya, who was reeling from a series of flops, got a decent hit with 24. The film grossed more than 25 crores Telugu, which is surprisingly higher than the Tamil original.
The latest Vijay Antony starrer Bichagadu took everyone by surprise, even though it released with no expectations. As per trade circles, Bichagadu has already grossed nearly 7 crores and is poised to collect nearly 10 crores in full run.Even Vishal’s Rayudu made its presence felt at Telugu box-office with 5 crore gross in its first week. Incidentally, all these films gained as most Telugu biggies failed to set the cash registers ringing this summer.
