100 Bangladeshis Injured Arguing over Indian TV Serial

Here is the perfect example of how maniacally viewers connect with TV serials. As many as 100 people sustained injuries after a brawl broke out in Dhol village in Bangladesh over the plot of an Indian fantasy TV serial.As per the information divulged by the police, the villagers at a remote village near Dhaka had gathered at a restaurant on Wednesday night to watch Kiranmala, a popular Bengali TV serial about a warrior princess who saves humankind from evil. In the beginning, two men got involved into an argument over the serial’s story and it later turned into a group feud.

The angry mob vandalized the restaurant throughout the night and continued the fight on Thursday morning as well. Police had to fire rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the belligerent crowd. After few attacked others with sticks and knives, over 100 people sustained injuries, 15 of them required hospital assistance.

Three suicides of young women have also been linked to Kiranmala by the Bangladeshi media claiming that they committed suicide after their parents had refused to buy them an expensive dress like the one worn by the princess in Kiranmala.Several Bangladeshis blasted the government for allowing the broadcast of Indian television channels which in their opinion corrupt the people of the Muslim-majority nation.
