Panabaka turns down demand to resign

Turning down the demand of Seemandhra protestors for her resignation, Union Minister Panbaka Lakshmi has said that as an individual, she is a strong supporter of Samaikyandhra but there is no question of her tendering resignation under duress. She added that she will abide by the decision of the Congress high-command.

When the Union minister alighted at Guntur railway station, she had to face the ire of Seemandhra agitators. They mobbed her and demanded her to resign as Union minister in support of Samaikyandhra.

Trying to pacify the agitators, Lakshmi said, “Though I am a supporter of Samaikhya Andhra, I will abide by the decision of the Congress Party as I was elected on Congress ticket and there was no question of my resignation”. However, she clarified “If my resignation will stall the process of bifurcation, I am ready to quit the post”.

Strongly refuting allegations that the Congress party has initiated the process of bifurcation to gain politically for  making party’s vice-president Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister, Lakshmi said if at all Rahul Gandhi was to become Prime Minister, there was no need to wait till 2014.

Meanwhile, speaking separately,  Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar  said there was no question of stalling of process of Telangana State. “We have faith in our party president Sonia Gandhi and it will be the responsibility of the party to ensure formation of Telangana State.”
