The media reports with photographs of several senior police officials having close links with Maoist-turned-gangsters Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem are said to have landed the police department in an embarrassing situation, but the Telangana government appears to be caring a damn for the reports.
The photographs showed a top official having a drink with Nayeem and another counter-intelligence official along with an inspector having dinner with him, while a third photograph showed a DSP participating in Ganesh Utsav along with Nayeem. A fourth photograph of a traffic inspector attending a function with Nayeem also came to light.
While SIT officials said they would take action after sending the pictures to the forensic department, home minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy said there was no question of acting against the police officials based on media reports.
“The government will go only by the report submitted by the Special Investigation Team which is probing the case,” he said.
In December last, Telangana home secretary Rajiv Trivedi submitted a counter-affidavit in the high court stating that there was no evidence to prove that the police had been actively using the services of Nayeem.
He denied the allegation that the police officers were benefitted from the accused also had no evidence.
