Which the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent speech at Rajya Sabha is gaining a lot of attention from all quarters, his attack on former PM and Congress Rajya Sabha member Manmohan Singh is receiving a lot of flak. The Congress party, along with Left, Trinamool and JDU, on Wednesday walked out of the house for the ‘ugly’ remark made by PM.
Earlier on Wednesday, Modi delivered a long speech on cash crunch situation during demonetization and its after effects wherein he neatly attacked the two-time Prime Minister, ‘Dr Sahab (Manmohan Singh) has been directly involved in financial matters of country for more than 3 decades now and he could remain clean. Only Sahab knows the art of bathing in a bathroom with raincoat on.’ The ‘silent’ Manmohan Singh, who previously handled Indian economic affairs, always maintained an untarnished persona, regardless of party’s ill-image during scams, policies and incumbency.
In his full-speech, Prime Minister Modi also took swipe at Indira Gandhi, former Congress PM, for ignoring her bureaucrats when they suggested ‘demonetization’ in the year 1971 itself. Infuriated with both of the attacks, Congress staged a walk out that was later followed by other opposition parties too.
Although opposition members in Rajya Sabha started today’s session seeking an apology from Modi, he remains unfettered and looks in no mood to offer ‘apology’. Earlier today, when Venkaiah Naidu, the Union minister for Urban Development, was asked to voice out on ‘raincoat’ remark by PM, he backed him by telling, ‘It is the Congress party which should say sorry for continuously disrespecting Modi and Parliament.’
Calling Modi’s comment ‘ugly’, ‘shameful’ and ‘saddening’, the members of Upper house have launched a scathing attack against him, while Manmohan Singh remained to maintain silence. The Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter saying, “When a Prime Minister reduces himself to ridiculing his predecessor-years his senior,he hurts the dignity of the parliament &the nation. He demeans his position and himself more than anyone else. Today’s events were saddening and frankly; they were shameful.”
