While Indian community is yet to heal from the ‘hate crime’ – killing of 32-year-old Srinivas Kuchibhotla ten days ago in Olathe city of Kansas state, the latest is that the killing of Indian-origin businessman Harnish Patel is also suspected to be ‘hate crime’ and racially motivated.

According to reports, the attacker of Harnish had approached him in his driveway and told him to leave the country before shooting him. It’s confirmed by the Kent City Police Chief Ken Thomas on Saturday. He told media that the attacker had said ‘get out of our country, go back to where you’re from’ before shooting the victim. “To think that this could happen in our community was very surprising and extremely disappointing,” Ken Thomas said.

On Thursday night, 43-year-old Harnish had closed and locked up his convenience store Speedee Mart, in Lancaster County in South Carolina, less than 10 minutes before he was shot outside his home. Harnish belonged to Vadodara district of Gujarat state in India. He had been living in the US with his family for over 14 years.

However, this is not the first attack on Sikh community in the US. There have been several attacks on Sikhs in the United States over a period of more than a decade.
