In 2016, 30K Indians overstayed in US: Report

According to the recent figures by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), more than 30,000 Indians overstayed in the America last year, 2016.

This DHS annual-report provides country wise data of entry, departure, and overstay of foreign visitors who came to the US as non-immigrants and expected to leave the country.

This report states that more than 50 million foreigners who entered the US were supposed to leave in 2016. Of these, more than 1.4 million are Indians. Among Indians, atleast 30,000 members have overstayed.

Of these overstayed members from India, around 6,000 Indians left the US in 2016 after overstaying the period they were allowed. And from the total, more than 50 million non-immigrant admissions, around 7,40,000 overstayed with an overstay rate of 1.47 percent.

This same report for 2015 stated that more than 8,81,000 Indians on business or pleasure were expected to leave the country, but 14,348 Indians overstayed, including 1,463 who left the U.S. after the expiry period of their visas.
