Two Interesting Films On Gandhi Politics

During the time of Congress ruling in India couple of years earlier, there came a movie titled “Madras Cafe”. Without taking any names, or using any related titles, the film narrated the story of how LTTE members have sketched the assassination plot of Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi. The film was a stunner then and the directorial skills of Shoojit Sircar impressed everyone.

Treading in similar lines, two more films are now coming up, which talk about the Gandhi politics now. First, we have to talk about the film “Indu Sarkar” being directed by National Award Winning director Madhur Bhandarkar. The film is set during the period of Emergency in India, 1975 to 1977 and no doubt it deals with Indira Gandhi and her actions.

The second film that targeted another Gandhian rule is “The Accidental Prime Minister” being directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte. This happens to be the story of Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and definitely, the title itself suggests how much of Sonia Gandhi dynamics will be portrayed in the movie.

While Indu Sarkar is set for July 28th, The Accidental Prime Minister will hit cinemas in December 2019. The irony is that both these films that deal a lot with Congress ruling in the country are releasing at a time when the party is not in power.
