India Beats Australia, Reaches World Cup Final

India stormed into the ICC World Cup final, annihilating Defending Champion Australia by 36 runs in the semi-final on Thursday.

India’s vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur produced one of greatest ever ODI knocks in the history of women’s cricket to take India into the final of the global event. This is the second World Cup final for ‘Women in Blue’, having lost to Australia in the final of the 2005 edition. India will meet hosts England in the final to be played on Sunday.

Kaur’s career-best 171 off 115 balls powered India to an imposing 281 for 4 after rain reduced the game to 42-overs a side. The target proved too big a mountain to scale for the Australians who could manage only 245 before getting all out in 40.1 overs.

The Indian vice’captain’s magical innings, which was embellished with 20 fours and 7 sixes, is being hailed by cricket greats as one of the greatest knocks in the knock out stages. During her ‘hurricane’ sort of innings, she took just 26 balls to reach from 51 to 100 and raced to 150 from 101 in just 17 balls, leaving the Aussie bowlers clueless about how she kept hitting them out of the park, our of the tournament ultimately.
