In a first of its kind theft, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s car, the iconic ‘blue Wagon R’ was stolen from right outside the Secretariat in Delhi on Thursday afternoon.
The Wagon R, gifted to Kejriwal by an NRI, was once nicknamed the “AAP Mobile” as Kejriwal used it in his early political career, and even camped and slept in it during a controversial protest against the Delhi Police in 2014. Kejriwal used the car during his campaign for the first election he contested, and he retained the vehicle even after he became the Chief Minister of Delhi.
The car was used by the AAP chief to demonstrate his party’s commitment to fighting VIP culture, and it had become synonymous with his ‘common man’ image.
Police have launched an investigation to trace down the vehicle.
