One of the most controversial films in the recent times much before its release in theatres is none other than “Padmavati”, directed and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. From warnings to director Bhansali and also lead actress Deepika Padmavathi, to offering bounty for axing their head, organisations like Karni Sena stoked the Hindutva agenda in the name of this film. But the punch has come from Censor Board also as they have rejected to Censor the film until issues are resolved.
Latest update is that Central Board of Film Certification has reportedly decided to issue a U/A certificate to Padmavati provided certain suggested modifications are done including a change in the title. It seems like to appease the Rajasthani Rajputs and other groups who are claiming Padmavati as their holy goddess, CBFC has now asked Padmavati makers to drop ‘i’ from the title and make it ‘Padmavat’.
Other suggestions including adding some ‘disclaimers’ that particular scenes are not to hurt anyone religiously. Also, they have asked Bhansali to tone down the Sati scene such that it will not glorify the act. And then Ghoomar song should also be trimmed to a certain extent.
We have to see what will Bhansali do finally, while Deepika Padukone, Ranvir Singh and Shahid Kapoor moved to their next projects already but waiting to promote this film. Initially set for December 1st, 2017 release date, the makers have to pick a new date now.
