Centre Hints, No Railway Zone To AP!

Rubbing salt on the wounds of the people of Andhra Pradesh who were denied Special Category Status along with whole host of things, the Centre is now on the verge of ruling out Special Railway Zone to Visakhapatnam in AP. Indicating that the Special Railway Zone too is not possible, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Monday said that the demand was not feasible. This comes as a major blow to AP including the BJP’s AP unit who had been making tall claims of bringing Railway Zone to the state.

Rajiv Gauba made it clear that the feasibility reports were against to the setting up of a separate railway zone at Visakhapatnam that was committed in the 13th Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act – the Act passed by the Indian Parliament. Rajiv also quoted that the Railway Board is against to the proposal of separate railway zone to AP. However, Rajiv said that the final call would be taken by the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

As per the proposal, the special railway zone could be established by clubbing Waltair, Vijayawada, Guntur and Guntakal divisions with Visakhapatnam as the head quarters.

AP CM Chandrababu Naidu, who is an ally of BJP, has also assured his state several times that a railway zone would definitely be established. Even BJP’s AP leaders have been stating that the railway zone would be reality. But the latest remarks of Union Home Secretary come as a rude shock. Either this could be drama of BJP to show that something was accorded to AP though it is not feasible or this could be an attempt to really rule out the railway zone to AP. Let’s wait and see.
