After resigning from their MP candidatures, the YSRCP MPs today began a fast-unto-death protest demanding special status to Andhra Pradesh. The MPs began their protest at AP Bhavan after paying tributes to Ambedkar’s statue, martyrs who sacrificed their lives for AP Special Status and YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
The fast began a 2 pm this afternoon. All the 5 YSRCP MPs Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, YV Subbareddy, Varaprasad, Avinash Reddy and Midhun Reddy sat for the hunger protest. Hundreds of YSRCP supporters and several MLAs raised slogans demanding immediate sanction of special status.
The YSRCP leaders demanded the TDP MPs to resign from their posts and fight for special status and AP’s welfare. They ridiculed AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s New Delhi visit, describing it as a futile attempt to protect the state’s interests.
