In this season of hunger strike protests, here’s an unexpected twist. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with BJP President Amit Shah and all the BJP MPs, will be observing a one day hunger strike on April 12.
Modi and BJP’s move is a protest over disruptions during the budget sessions in the Parliament by the opposition parties, especially Congress. While Modi will observe a hunger strike in New Delhi, Amit Shah will protest in Hubli and all the MPs will follow their seniors in their respective constituencies.
On Friday, Modi had accused Congress of resorting to divisive politics and announced BJP’s hunger strike as a protest. In a retaliation, the Congress too had announced that its members would observe a fast on April 9 to promote communal harmony across the country.
Last week, the entire second leg of the budget session was a complete washout without discussion due to protests by the opposition parties on various issues. Nearly 250 Parliament hours were wasted due to the disruptions, at an expense of Rs 9 crore per day.
