Posters in the streets of Guntur town with photos of the Minister for Transport Kanna Lakshminarayana created commotion in political circles.
Does the Congress cadre, especially Kanna supporters have such indications from the party high command?
It is no secret that there were reports in a section of media, about alleged Kanna Lakshminarayana’s secret meeting with party president Sonia Gandhi. The party high command, which continues to suspect defiant Kiran of creating some embarrassment, has held consultations with some of its senior members from the state, including Kanna Lakshminarayana.
His discreet meeting with party Chief Sonia Gandhi indeed raised many eye brows. He apparently stayed in an undisclosed private house as well travelled to Sonia’s residence in a private car, news reports alleged. The party high command, which is determined to ensure smooth passage of the T-Bill even in AP Legislative Assembly, wanted to replace Kiran Kumar Reddy as Chief Minister on the eve of the session. Reason: Kiran’s determination to negate the T-Bill in the assembly.
The party high command doesn’t like to face any such embarrassment as it would remain a ‘blot’ and also enable the Opposition to find fault for not fulfilling the Constitutional obligation, when it comes for discussion in parliament. Hence, it was scouting for alternative candidate who can help the party high command to overcome such a problem. Part of that exercise, it had also sounded another strong ‘Reddy community member and Union Minister Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy, who politely turned down such a responsibility.
Perhaps, he would not like to go down into history pages like his late father, Kotla Surayaprakash Reddy, who got the dubious record of handing over power on platter to Telugu Desam, not once but twice, in 1982 and 1993, by accepting similar challenge. As Suryaprakash Reddy has refused to accept the responsibility, the party high command chose to pick another strong “Kapu” community member like Kanna Lakshminarayana.
