5 Reasons which helped TRS secure majority

The wave in Telangana is clear. It is Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s (TRS) Day today and its Chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao will become the CM of Telangana once again.

With Lagadapati’s survey going down the drain, here are four main reasons:

Rythu Bandhu Scheme: The scheme which is aimed at providing liquidity to farmers to take care of their inputs ahead of the agricultural season. Disbursals for Rabi and Kharif were claimed to be credited on time to the beneficiaries. This has proved to be a huge vote gainer for the TRS.

Muslim votes: The votes of the Muslim community, which were earlier a vote bank of the Congress, across the state have been sealed by the TRS. One of the reasons could be because of AIMIM’s support to the TRS. Excluding voters in Hyderabad who are loyal to AIMIM, the rest of the voters from the community seem to have chosen the TRS.

Telangana sentiment: Despite Telangana sentiment initially gaining steam, it faded during October. However, in November and December towards the end of the poll campaigns, the sentiment proved to be a positive for the TRS. With massive maligning of TDP and Congress and raking up the anti-Andhra sentiment, this TRS gained hugely in the process.

Systematic campaigning and poll management: The planning and early declaration of candidates by TRS initially seemed like a hasty move. However, that helped the party plan its campaigns and roadshows much in advance. Additionally, huge spending and funding on the campaigns as well as successful poll management worked in favour of the TRS.

Welfare schemes: The welfare schemes such as pensions, sheep distribution scheme and several other schemes that worked for beneficiaries won TRS their votes. Meanwhile, Opposition’s remarks on KCR not visiting Secretariat or neglecting Martyr’s families and other reasons did not matter to these beneficiaries, unlike the urban population which thought of these as pressing issues.
