The first cabinet meeting of new Telangana government is attended by only two members. One is obviously the chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and the other member is Home Minister Mahmood Ali.
Some key decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting. The first among many is to nominate Anglo-Indian community representative and to also make him take oath along with newly elected MLAs.
Generally, Anglo-Indian MLA nomination would take time and the representative would get less time to work as an MLA. To avoid this delay, the cabinet has decided to speed up the process. Mumtaz Ahmed Khan of MIM party has been nominated as Pro-tem speaker and Elvis Stephenson as a nominated member of the House.
The above proposals were sent to Governor and on his consent, Gazette notification will be released.
The cabinet appreciated Election Commission of India, state election commission and commissioner Rajath Kumar for holding the Telangana elections in a peaceful manner.
The Telangana assembly is likely to meet on January 17th. Newly elected MLAs will take an oath, followed by Speaker and deputy speaker selection.
