New DTH rules come into effect from today

With the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) new rules and regulations coming into effective, we would be witnessing a change in DTH services from today i.e, February 1st. Under the new norm, DTH and cable subscribers can individually select and pay accordingly to their respective service providers.

The basic monthly fee for 100 channels is Rs 130. However consumers will also have to pay 18 per cent GST above this pack and the total comes to around Rs 153. This is common across all operators i.e, AirTel, Tata Sky, Dish Tv, Sun Direct and others. Most DTH operators have listed their own packs well in advance making it easier for the subscribers.

Consumers who want more than the basic pack, need to pay Rs 20 extra for 25 channels. 18 per cent GST will also apply to these slots. Channel prices are dictated by the broadcasters but they should get a formal approval from TRAI before implementing them. All the channel prices are listed on TRAI’s website.

To the users who have no clue about this new rule by TRAI, there will be no blackout. They will continue to get the benefits of the pack, if they have subscribed to a long term pack. Subscribers can reach out to TRAI’s call centre at 0120-6898689 or send an email to das@trai.gov.in.
