Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K. Chandrasekhar Rao said his party would support Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, along with his demands to offer equal share of incentive to Telangana. KCR, for the first time, publicly announced his support to Special Status obviously to strengthen the party’s ally, YSR Congress’ poll prospects in AP, in the wake of TDP supremo and his bete noire time and again criticising YSRCP chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy for tying up with TRS, even when there has been no assurance from KCR on the issue.
Addressing an election meeting in Vikarabad near Hyderabad, KCR predicted that the TDP would lose the April 11 elections. He reminded that MPs of TRS Party had already registered their support to SCS in the Parliament. In the same tempo, KCR refuted allegations being levelled by Chandrababu that he was trying to stall the Polavaram project which is the lifeline of AP.
However, many are questioning why TRS leaders such as Harish Rao and other MPs had outrightly rejected Special Status to AP earlier. They also question the TRS’ stand in not supporting MPs from Andhra Pradesh in the Parliament when they tabled a no-confidence motion against the Modi government for not granting Special Status to AP.
Changing his tone against “Andhra people” after calling them “Andhra Drohulu” during the Telangana Assembly elections, KCR reiterated that people of AP were good but it was only leaders like Chandrababu Naidu who were irritating him. “Naidu is cursing Hyderabad that it would lose its significance. Naidu will lose his deposit in the polls,” the TRS chief said. He also predicted that TRS will win 16 MP seats, AIMIM one and along with the YSRC, they would win 35 MP seats.
KCR’s comments come in the wake of the people of Andhra Pradesh seeing him in negative light, despite being an ally of YSR Congress. His comments on people from Seemandhra and those who migrated to Hyderabad have been very controversial as he indulged in name-calling and abusing them.
Political observers say that this is an attempt by the TRS to undo the damage it has done and to help Jagan in AP. However, we are yet to see whether the people of AP will forget the wounds of the past inflicted by KCR upon them or will this turn out to be a last moment advantage for Jagan in Andhra Pradesh.
