‘Amma Vodi’ comes with terms and conditions

Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan led YSR Congress government is imposing many terms and conditions on the welfare schemes that it announced during the election campaign. First it was the pension. Jagan has promised to increase the pensions from Rs 2000 to Rs 3000. But after taking oath as CM from the very venue, Jagan announced that he would increase Rs 250 per year and for the current year, the YSRCP government is paying Rs 2250 as pension.

Now it’s the turn of ‘Amma Vodi’ which predominantly was the key factor for getting women votes. During the YSRCP’s plenary meeting couple of years back, Jagan said that mothers who will send their kids to schools, his government would pay certain amount.

From first standard to fifth, his government assured to pay Rs 500 per kid and if there are two kids, then mothers would get Rs 1000. From sixth standard to tenth, Jagan announced Rs 750 per kid and for intermediate students, it is Rs 1000. In that case, every mother who sends her kids to schools and colleges would get Rs 12,000, Rs 18,000 and Rs 24,000 for the above mentioned three categories.

While finalising the election manifesto, this scheme is name as ‘Amma Vodi’ and instead of the three categories, they summed all three into one and promised to pay Rs 15,000 per mother. However, the manifesto lacked clarity about the second child norm.

In the recently announced budget Rs 6455.80 crore were allocated to ‘Amma Vodi’ scheme but the main twist came here. The YSRCP government clarified that this scheme is applicable to mothers only with WHITE RATION CARD. There are about 80 lakh students and as per the officials estimation 43 lakh students are eligible for ‘Amma Vodi’ scheme. Also one more norm came in like a shock and the government said it would credit the amount in a mother’s ‘account’ irrespective of the count of kids.
