The current talk of the town, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, is all set to release tomorrow on Oct 2. This magnum opus is said to be more of a historic fictional drama than a biopic. Directed by Surender Reddy, the film has already garnered unbelievable expectations for its awe-strucking trailers and posters. Megastar’s daughter Sushmita, who worked as a costume designer for the film, said that Ram Charan gave her the opportunity to work in Sye Raa only after seeing her work in Rangasthalam.
Earlier, though she worked for Chiru’s 150th film Khaidi No.150, Charan was said to be hesitant and gained confidence only after Rangasthalam. She spoke about her commitment and hard work on how she could make exceptional costumes for Megastar, Amitabh Bachchan, Nayanthara and Tamannaah. Sushmita said that the most challenging part was she had to design vintage clothes for a storyline of 1800-1850s. Since there was a scarcity in finding pictures of Uyyalawala Narasimha Reddy, Sushmita said that it was a little tough job for her to imagine his apparels and style. But, one thing was on her mind- This picture should be used as a future reference. Therefore, the team made sedulous efforts in reading many historic books and meeting his locals.
It is vividly spoken out that they have used only imagination for Narasimha Reddy rather than precise dressing. Since there was no documentation in hand, Sushmita and team had to go with then available Indian textiles. They designed the character as per the role and man’s strength, with a panchakattu, thick moustache, turban and a shawl. Both actresses, Nayanthara and Tamannaah, have said to have worn 12metres long sarees and draping must be obviously time taking as we normally wear only 5 to 6 metres. Nayan’s saree was shown uniquely with an extended pallu, wrapping around her hand. But, Tamannaah’s design was harder compared to Nayan’s, said Sushmita.
As a dancer evolved to freedom fighter, Tamannaah had a lot of transformations in looks and it was quite difficult to comprehend her character. To make them look grand, the team have only used embroidery designs. Talking about Big B’s look, since he has to look like a sage, but not in a deglamorized look, they have used Bhagalpudi Khadi silk which would give grandeur look. Anju Modi, who is a renowned costume designer, is said to be having a great insight on fabrics. She has reportedly taken the maximum work for Amitabh’s appearance.
