With a view to take on Amazon Prime, Hotstar and Netflix in India, Apple is entering into a new space and launched its own video streaming service called ‘Apple TV Plus’. Apple is debuting into this streaming TV market with 9 originals. Likely to add more shows in the days to come, some of the current originals include celebs like Jason Momoa, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey, Charlize Theron et al.
The company has planned to charge just Rs 99 for a monthly subscription (while Netflix is charging Rs 199 for mobile users and Amazon Prime is charging Rs 129). Each subscription can be shared by six people. Also, new users can avail a free trail for a week and those who’re using iPhone or Pro models are eligible for free one year Apple TV+ subscription. While the monthly plan in India is priced at just 99 Rs, Apple has decided to price $4.99 per month in US.
Let us wait and see if Apple will be able to make a mark in India with its video streaming service, by competing with existing players. The Apple TV+ service available only on iOS 12.3 or higher versions, selected Samsung Smart TVs and Amazon Fire TV.
