Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL Movie Review
After a long time, Sundeep Kishan has tried his hand at comedy in this week’s release ‘Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL’. As this is directed by G Nageswara Reddy who earlier directed comedies like ‘Seema Sastry’, the movie has garnered attention.
Let’s find out how far it has generated laughs.
Story:
Tenali Ramakrishna (Sundeep Kishan) is a budding lawyer in Kurnool city. He doesn’t get many cases to deal with.
Due to some incidents, he inadvertently takes up businesswoman Varalaxmi’s (Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar) case and bails her out from a murder case, thinking that she is innocent. However, he comes to know that Varalaxmi is not innocent.
How Tenali uses his brain to implicate her in the case is the rest of the drama.
Artistes’ Performances:
After playing serious roles for many years, Sundeep Kishan has played a comic role but his body language doesn’t suit this character. He has tried to perform mass moments than doing the comedy.
Hansika has nothing much to do other than being hero’s lover.
Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar in her maiden Telugu movie has done a neat job.
Saptagiri’s comedy is good. Murali Sharma and Vennela Kishore are okay. Chammak Chandra generates a few laughs in the second half, but they are quite routine.
Technical Excellence:
The film has decent technical values. Cinematography is the main asset. Sriram has presented this colourfully.
Music and artwork are adequate enough for the theme of the movie. However, it needed better editing work.
Highlights:
Some laughs
Drawback:
Regular story
Routine narration
Lengthy second half
Analysis
Director G Nageshwara Reddy belongs to the old school of filmmaking. His comedies have worked ten years ago, but today’s generation doesn’t connect with these regular comedies. His recent flops are a proof.
After taking a long gap, he has come up with this film and tried to present the old comedy elements in a tetra pack but this old wine in a new bottle is not tasty enough.
It is a punishment to sit through a major portion of the movie where nothing happens other than some comedy punch dialogues.
A lawyer with no cases, a bunch of comedians doing all sorts of gimmicks in court premises and a hero falling for the daughter of a rich lawyer, etc. – these scenes are straight out of a formulaic template of comedy movies.
Generally, Allari Naresh acts in such comedy movies. The only difference in “Tenali Ramakrishna” is that Sundeep Kishan has stepped in the shoes of Allari Naresh.
As Sundeep is not a typical comedy hero, the director has tried to include some mass moments and fights.
A couple of comedy portions have definitely generated laughs in the second half but the film is more of a clichéd entertainer.
Nageshwara Reddy has included all the references of current political jargon Kodi Kathi, Grama Volunteers, political rap that bring smiles on the lips. But the whole episode of Sundeep Kishan – Varalaxmi goes on and on spoiling the proceedings further.
All in all, ‘Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL’ is a weak case that hardly wins the hearts of the audiences.
Bottom-line: Weak Case
