If the talk doing rounds in the media circles is to be believed, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided hasten the process of capital shifting in another 10-12 days, instead of dragging it further.
Though the high-power committee constituted to study the reports of experts committee headed by retired IAS officer G N Rao and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) till January 20, Jagan reportedly told the committee members not to wait till then and submit the report at the earliest.
The high-power committee which had its third meeting in Vijayawada on Friday, will have for just one more meeting before submitting the report to the chief minister.
Sources said soon after the Sankranti festival, the Jagan government will call for a one-day special session of the state assembly on January 18. A couple of hours before that, he will hold the cabinet meeting where the decision to shift the capital to Visakhapatnam will be ratified.
“During the assembly session, Jagan government will virtually bulldoze his way to get the cabinet decision capital shift accepted, though the opposition parties will try to make a hue and cry. Once the capital shift plan gets endorsed by the assembly, it will be forwarded to the Centre for formal clearance,” sources said.
In all probability, Jagan will begin the process of capital shift to Visakhapatnam on January 22.
“He will make the first move first by formally entering into the camp office. And he will unfurl the national flag on the Republic Day on January 26, which would signal the commencement of administration from Visakhapatnam,” sources said.
