Following the widespread outbreak of the novel coronavirus, US President Donald Trump has called for a national emergency. Donald Trump held a press meeting to confirm the news.
“To unleash the full power of the federal government I am officially declaring a national emergency,” President Trump said.
“Emergency orders I’m issuing today will also confer broad new authority to the Secretary of Health and Human Services,” Trump said.
“The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar, will now be able to waive revisions of laws and regulations to give healthcare providers, doctors, and hospitals maximum flexibility to respond to the virus and care for patients,” he added.
Talking about the safety measures Mr. Trump said that around 1.4 million coronavirus test kits will be made available in the next week and by the end of next month more 5 million kits will be arranged.
More than 1,700 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the United States, including 41 deaths so far. The toll of the cases might increase with time. To increase the ability to conduct tests for people for the COVID-19, the government has been developing new partnerships with the private sector.
