It is not an exaggeration to say social distancing is a privilege in many parts of the world and one of them is Asia’s largest slum, Dharavi. The first coronavirus death is reported from Dharavi and it has become a major concern not just for the area but also to the state of Maharashtra.
A second positive case is also reported in less than 24 hours of the death of the first case from Dharavi, With over a million people living in Dharavi slums, the virus spread could be faster than in other places.
The first death in Dharavi is heard to be of a 56-year-old civic worker who lives in Worli but posed in Dharavi, He reportedly showed the symptoms on March 23 and after testing positive for COVID-19, he was quarantined. He did not have any recent travel history.
The surroundings of his residence along with the other 300 flats in the building he lived have been sealed now and the civic body is providing the food and ration to the residents.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra is 335 and 17 people died due to it.
