Jagan Slams Naidu For Permitting LG Polymers Expansion

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy made it clear that LG Polymers, which was the cause of the toxic styrene gas tragedy in Vizag that claimed the lives of 12 people, will not be allowed to function as it used to earlier. He also said that those responsible for the gas leak tragedy will be booked.

He addressed the officials through video conference and slammed Telugu Desam supremo and former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu for sanctioning permission for the plant’s expansion. He said none of those responsible for the tragedy would be spared.

“Reports from the committees appointed to look into the tragedy are awaited. We will study the reports and take action. We will also grill the plant management with regard to the tragedy,” Jagan said, adding that the recommendations of the experts committees will be implemented transparently.

Jagan said that the company will not be allowed to take up the same activity from the same location anymore. Meanwhile, the LG Polymers plant management said that all the styrene stock has been sent back to South Korea.

Over 12 people were killed due to the toxic gas leak on May 7 near RR Venkatapuram in Vizag. Several others fell ill inhaling the gas. The bereaved families were given an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore each.

It also said that in collaboration with other institutions, they are trying to understand the cause of the accident, prevent re-occurrence and most importantly, provide help to the affected families.
