Chiru may skip Goa Carnival for Maha Kumbh

Union Tourism Minister Chiranjeevi may not attend the Goa carnival as he will be at the Maha Kumbh in Allahabad, an official said Wednesday. South Indian superstar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi was scheduled to inaugurate the Goa Carnival Feb 9.

“Chiranjeevi’s office has informed us that he would be at the Allahabad Maha Kumbh Mela Feb 7-8 and may extend his stay by a day. We are not sure that he will attend the Goa Carnival,” state Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar told Wednesday.

The Maha Kumbh is a 55-day Hindu festival held at Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati river. It began Jan 15. On the other hand, the Goa Carnival is a celebration of the state’s Portuguese legacy.
