Chandrababu: YSRCP failing farmers terribly

TDP Chief and ex-Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has once again pointed out the shortcomings of YSRCP in handling the problems that Andhra Pradesh farmers are facing.

Chandrababu Naidu said that the YSRCP government is not giving enough funds to the irrigation sector, because of which the farmers of AP are at a great loss. Many irrigation projects in the state of Andhra Pradesh came to a halt in the last 13 months because proper funds have not been allotted to the irrigation sector.

Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to the Principal Secretary of Irrigation, stating that works on the Kuppam Branch Canal had been stalled, even after 90% of the works had already been completed. As a result of this stalling, farmers belonging to Western Chittoor have been affected the most, as they were the happiest when they saw water flowing in their region for the first time, via the Kuppam Branch Canal.

Chandrababu Naidu also wrote that while the TDP government had allotted Rs. 14,000 crores towards irrigation projects during its regime, the YSRCP government had allotted only Rs. 4,700 crores. With this kind of budget, all the farmers of the state will soon be in a dire position, which will not be good for the state.

Mr. Naidu also said that the borewells in the state are drying up, and that people are suffering because of acute shortage of water. He added that the YSRCP government is not even paying tanker bills in time, and has been avoiding to do so because it didn’t want to pay the outstanding bills of the previous government formed by TDP. All of this is affecting the common people of Andhra Pradesh, adding to their list of miseries – apart from the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

The government of Andhra Pradesh should surely re-evaluate its stance on all the irrigation projects with the people of Andhra Pradesh in mind, and not their personal issues.
