As the nation battles to quell rising coronavirus infections, the people see fascism displayed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and criticised him for being an opportunist in the crisis situations.
Recently in Modi led government, The Authority for Advance Ruling (AAR) has slapped an unprecedented GST of 18 per cent on all alcohol-based hand sanitisers. Springfield India Distilleries had approached the Goa-bench and suggested a tax of 12 % to be levied instead of 18%. It also appealed, if the sanitizers can be exempted from tax in midst of the pandemic.
However, AAR mentioned that since the sanitizers are alcohol based, the GST would be 18%.
After Bihari people’s troll over CM Nitish Kumar with hashtag #coronakumar, now numerous Twitter users started a new hashtag #Coronarendramodi to take a dig at PM Modi by claiming it be a shameful and unfair practice to introduce 18% GST on sanitizers. While few other netizens backlashed by pinpointing the problems related to PM’s failure in handling covid-19, economy, black market, Ladakh issue etc with the same hashtag.
After facing criticism, Finance Ministry cleared the air by saying that cutting down GST on hand sanitisers would make imports cheaper, endangering domestic manufacturers and thereby effecting the principle of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
