From Nov 2, the schools in Andhra Pradesh reopened and after a long break of 5 months. Jagan Mohan Reddy government took a decision regarding the reopening of schools by conducting classes in alternative days and half-a-day classes to alternate standards. However, after 2 days, there has been some fear surrounding the students and parents as so many COVID positive cases are being reported by teachers and students is creating panic.
According to reports, about 60 staff and students tested positive for COVID-19 around the state and most of them were sent to home isolation on the day 1 itself. Some of the serious cases are even admitted in the hospitals. At some places, the midday meal serving staff were getting infected. As a result, the tensions were rising among the officials and the parents.
On the other side, the school authorities are taking permission letters from the parents on the safe side amid the COVID scare for the students to attend the classes. Many COVID cases are reported from the parts of the Prakasam, East Godavari districts and other districts and it is being doubted that the virus is being carried by the asymptomatic carriers. As such, the officials are beginning to test students and other staff in schools where cases are reported.
The parents are even stopping their children from sending to school due to the COVID threat and it may be the time for the Government to revise their decision on this reopening of the schools or there might be a room for slight changes in the protocol.
