As opposed to the trend, reports now surfaced that the Farhan Akhtar starrer ‘Toofan’ is going against the grain. Makers now opted for a direct release on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video by skipping the theatre release, which surprised many film buffs.
Trustworthy media sources reveal that hitherto, Toofan was planned to release in September 2020. Nevertheless, with the covid-induced lockdown impact, the film’s release had been on the back burner.
“Though it comes as a surprise that the director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and producers opted for a direct OTT release rather than a conventional theatrical release, it is now certain that Toofan will premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video”,affirmed the source.
When enquired about the reason behind such decision, it was learnt that makers felt currently theatres are just opening up, and it will be a while before their business returns to normal. Releasing a film in an uncertain situation like this is detrimental to business. But on the other hand, opting for a direct to OTT release, a filmmaker is assured of a certain sum that will cover his initial expense, ” added the source.
Bankrolled under Romp pictures and excel entertainments banner, Toofan will feature Farhan Akhtar essaying the role of a boxer opposite Mrunal Thakur. Music score is by Raju Singh and the songs are composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
