Cannot direct SEC for early Parishad polls: AP High Court to Govt

The ruling YSRCP had a dream run in the local body elections. Back-to-back successes in the elections encouraged the government to go to the Parishad elections as soon as possible.

YSRCP supremo, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is in the opinion of holding the Parishad elections as soon as possible and the concerned officials have been directed to work on this earlier.

The government has also knocked on the doors of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in this regard. A bunch of petitions were filed in the Court for the early Parishad elections and the Court heard the petitions today.

Hearing the petitions for the urgent commencement of the Parishad polls, the Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed the petitions and maintained that there is no urgency in holding the MPTC and ZPTC polls.

The next hearing of the case was adjourned to the 30th of this month. The High Court has also directed Andhra Pradesh’s State Election Commissioner(SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar to file a counter.

The bunch of petitions filed in the High Court held Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar responsible for not conducting the Parishad elections as per the election notification issued earlier.

Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar will retire from his post on March 31st. He took the first dose of the vaccine against the Coronavirus. Citing the doctors’ advice, the SEC even missed the Privileges Committee inquiry in connection with the notices served by Panchayat Raj Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy.
