Nagarjunasagar assembly constituency is now proving to be a tougher nut to crack for the BJP. The party now is feeling the heat of dissidence. Though the party has fewer chances of winning the seat, there is intense competition for the party ticket.
Interestingly, the party has lost its sheen ever since it lost the Graduate MLC constituency elections. The gains made during the Dubbak and GHMC elections have been frittered away. Today, it is just another fighter in the ring in Nagarjunasagar. But, for the BJP ticket aspirants, it is emerging as a do or die battle.
BjP’s candidate in 2018 elections, Nivedita Reddy, who polled just 2600 votes, is now emerging as a tough nut. Not only is she refusing to withdraw her candidature, she is even said to be threatening the party leader that she would fight as an independent if she is not given a ticket. She is particularly opposed to another contender Kadari Anjaiah Yadav. She says that Yadav is a late entrant into the party and has no locus standi.
Sources say that party chief Bandi Sanjay held a meeting with all the three contenders for Nagarjunasgar ticket. But, he could not convince Nivedita and that she has refused to withdraw from the contest. With just one day left for filing of nominations, Sanjay has a huge headache to handle. Let’s see how the party and its chief handles it.
