AT 8:45 PM today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went live, addressing the people of the nation, on the second wave of Coronavirus, which is currently spreading rapidly throughout the country. In his speech, Modi compared the second wave of coronavirus to a storm. He said that the second wave hit us just when we were recovering from the impact of the first wave.
Modi said that a lockdown is off the table and that he has told all the state governments to use it as a last resort. The Prime Minister said that maintaining our economic livelihoods is as important as making sure that we stay safe and healthy. He said that it is our duty as responsible citizens to be safe and to go out as little as possible.
PM Modi stressed the role the youth have to play in keeping the spread of the virus in check. He said that micro-managing the spread of the virus with the use of containment zones should be opted for, and self-discipline should be observed by all, in order to keep the virus at bay.
He said that the government will spare no effort in fighting the virus, but said that the people of the nation also play an equally important role in making sure that the chain of spreading is broken. Modi took the example of Sri Rama Navami and Ramzan and said that both these festivals teach one patience and discipline, both of which are highly necessary while fighting against Coronavirus.
The Prime Minister sympathized with all those who lost their dear ones to the virus in the last few days, also addressed the shortage in oxygen levels in various hospitals throughout the country. He said that the government is working tirelessly to make sure that there’s enough oxygen supply wherever necessary. He held meetings with various stakeholders and vaccine manufacturers yesterday and today, discussing the prospects of the future.
On the other hand, Indian reported 2.59 Lakh cases in the past 24 hours and 1,761 deaths. India now stands in the second position, next only to the USA, with over 1.53 Crore cases in total.
