The opposition parties in India often accuse social media platform Facebook of not acting tough on the BJP party, claiming that Facebook is being controlled by the saffron party in India.
Adding strength to the claims of the opposition parties, a few years back, the United States media also said that the ruling party in India and Facebook has a secret friendship, that is the reason why Facebook won’t delete content posted by BJP that promotes religious hatred.
Despite, BJP and Facebook denying these allegations, Facebook showing its soft corner towards the saffron party adds fuel to the popular opinion that the party and social media platform have something to do.
As one more headache to Facebook in the BJP-Facebook row, Facebook has blocked the #ResignModi hashtag that had trended on various social media platforms.
The netizens, who were not happy with the way the Union Government is handling the Covid-19 crisis in the country, raising the demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation under the hashtag #ResignModi.
Facebook blocking the hashtag has kick-started a criticism. With the issue getting a lot of criticism, Facebook has started working on steps to claim that it has nothing to do with the BJP party.
The spokesperson of Facebook said it has mistakenly blocked the hashtag. The social media platform said the hashtags on Facebook will be blocked periodically for different reasons.
“We temporarily blocked this hashtag by mistake, not because the Indian government asked us to, and have since restored it,” the spokesperson of Facebook India maintained.
