Ex-Coach alleges ‘star culture’ in women’s cricket team, says it needs to change!

Days after being removed as the head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team, WV Raman made it to the headlines alleging that there is a ‘star culture’ in the team and that it should be changed.’

Mr. Raman has written to serving BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid, National Cricket Academy (NCA) head. In the letter to the duo, Raman alleged that the “prima donna culture” should be changed.

In the letter, Raman didn’t mention any names. Media reports claimed that the new head coach offered to build a roadmap for Indian women’s cricket.

It has to be noted that WV Raman was sacked as the head coach of the Women’s team, by the Madan Lal-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). Ramesh Powar was appointed as the head coach.

Disputes between cricketers and coaches are not new in the Indian team. Back in 2018, Ramesh Powar was removed as the head coach, after he had an alleged fallout with legendary player Mithali Raj.

When Raj was dropped from the World Cup semi-final against England, she alleged that the then coach had shown bias towards her. Rubbishing the allegations, Powar said Mithali threw a lot of tantrums.

Now all the eyes on Mithai and Powar and how the atmosphere in the dressing room will be given the alleged differences the duo has. Moreover, India will play against the English team for ODI, T20, and Test series.

Mithali will lead India in the ODI and longer formats of cricket in England’s tour, while Harmanpreet Kaur will lead India in the short format of cricket in the same series.
