West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee protests at CBI’s Kolkata office

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested two West Bengal ministers Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, TMC MLA Madan Mitra, and former Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chattopadhyay in connection with the Narada bribery case.

Outraged with the arrest of four TMC leaders, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday arrived at the CBI office in Kolkata. She alleged that their arrests did not take place in accordance with the regulations. Opposing the custody of TMC leaders, the CM protested at the CBI office for about 45 minutes.

Before making her way to the CBI office, Mamata had reportedly gone to minister Hakim’s residence in Chetla.

The officials arrested all four from their residences in Kolkata after Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar gave his approval to the national agency for filing a charge sheet against the accused and authorised prosecution against them.

The arrested four were state ministers who were caught taking money in the purported Narada sting operation. The Calcutta High Court had ordered a CBI probe into the sting operation in March 2017.
