West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who lost the recent elections from Nandigram, is all set to contest by-poll from the Bhabanipur assembly seat.
Veteran TMC leader Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, who won from Bhabanipur, has resigned on Friday to pave a way for the CM to contest in the elections.
We know Banerjee needs to get elected to the assembly within six months to continue being the chief minister of the state.
For the unversed Banerjee was an MP when TMC won the Bengal elections in 2011. She then contested from the Bhabanipur seat a few months later and got elected. She won the seat in 2016 as well.
It is heard that Chattopadhyay, who resigned today, might be nominated to Rajya Sabha. Some claim that he will contest from Khardah seat, where a by-poll has been required following the death of Kajal Sinha.
