Andhra Pradesh writes to KRMB accusing Telangana of violating the order

The water sharing disputes between two Telugu States, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana which is getting worse day by day has now reached the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB).The Andhra Pradesh government has shot a letter to the board alleging that Telangana is using more water than its share for the power generation from the Srisailam Dam.

The Andhra Pradesh’s State Engineer-in-chief (ENC) of Irrigation C Narayana Reddy said that the state will face the after affects with Telangana’s move to generate hydro power at full capacity.Mr. Reddy said that, despite KRMB ordering not to take water from the Srisailam Dam, the Telangana government is going ahead with using the water. The state had already taken water in big quantities. A strict action should be taken against the state, he said.

The river board asked Telangana to not take water from the Dam as the ENC has written to the board two times earlier this month saying that Telangana is using water from the Dam, despite Nagarjuna Sagar having the water in adequate level. With no change in Telangana’s behaviour, the ENC has to write to the board. The fresh letter marks the third letter written by Andhra Pradesh against its fellow Telugu state.

The autonomous body Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) was set up in 2014 after Telangana was carved out of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh to sort out the disputes in water sharing.
