BJP’s “use and throw” system baffles Vijayasanthi

Actress-turned-politician Vijayasanthi seems to have come back to square one. She is finding the going tough in the BJP. The party leadership has largely ignored her and has not given her any post of consequence. She is finding that the party has little use for her. Except for an odd statement and a rare public appearance, the BJP has largely confined her to her home.

This has indeed been Vijayasanthi’s problem from the beginning. Vijayasanthi was among the earliest recruits to the BJP. She campaigned for the party in the late 1990s. Despite her gutsy and firebrand campaign, the party did not give her any post of importance. Later, she fell out with the party on the issue of Telangana and founded the Talli Telangana Party. KCR wooed her and merged her party into his party, the TRS. For some time, there was great bonhomie between the two. Vjayasanthi said KCR was a god-sent brother for her and used to tie rakhi every year. But soon, she found herself out of place in the TRS. KCR simply edged her out.

Later, she joined the Congress Party. She campaigned vigorously for the Congress Party. But, the party did not give her any key post. Soon, she found the internal squabbles too much and fell silent. Rahul Gandhi personally intervened and made her the campaign committee chief for Telangana. But, despite all this, she found herself fish out of water in the Congress and walked out of the party. It was after all these that she joined the BjP. But, even here, she is finding herself fish out of water.

The BJP in Telangana is riven by groups. She is finding herself crushed in the group fight between party chief Bandi Sanjay and union minister G Kishan Reddy. She is not being invited to the meetings and even when invited, she is being used for ornamental value only. She is at present not having any work in the party. She is said to be increasingly feeling that the BJP has adopted a ‘use and throw’ strategy to deal with her. Poor Vijayasanthi!!
